The majority of our guests have been awestruck by their visit to Kilauea Volcano (just a 40-45 minute drive from our Hilo properties) and many have told us it should be listed as one of the Wonders of the World. Do not go home without at least visiting Volcano National Park. Here you can enjoy breathtaking vistas and ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs, walk by spewing steam vents and walk through lava craters and giant lava tubes (all of our properties have flash lights so be sure to take them with you), stroll through lush rain forests or chose one of many hiking trails. Plan to pack a lunch in the coolers you will find in all our rentals. This park has so much to see and do that you will want to spend at least one entire day here.

Recently a new road was created, outside the park, which allows you to drive to within a mile of the current lava flow. This road is only a 20 minute drive from Mangos, Orchids and Palms. To watch lava pouring into the sea and enlarging our island is an incredible sight at any time of day but to see it at night defies description. Many of our guests pack up flashlights and coolers, head to the lava flow in the late afternoon and stay until 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. From the fingers of fire creeping down the mountain to the explosive entry of molten lava into the cooling sea, the scene you will witness is ever changing and the "fireworks" are undoubtedly far superior to anything you have ever seen before.
